Bonus Money Saving & Meal Planning Tips for 30 Minute Recipes

• Meal Plan to Save Money

Here’s the truth. Food is one of the only flexible aspects of your budget. You can actually choose how much you want to spend on food (to a certain extent). All other things such as rent and bills are fixed expenses.

So, it’s no secret that cutting your food budget is one of the easiest ways to save money! Meal planning and cooking at home is the first step to saving money on food. Using these 30 minute meal recipes can take the frustration out of cooking and lessen the overwhelm that comes along with it.

When meal planning, take note of your family’s favorites, include meals where you can shop your pantry and take advantage of these quick and easy 30 minute recipes. You should also be money smart about your meal selections. Obviously, cooking lobster at home is not the most budget-friendly option!

woman cooking 30 minute meals in the kitchen

Finally, leave no room for error by ensuring that you include every breakfast, lunch and dinner for the week on your meal plan. Feel free to double up recipes so that some dinners can be used as left overs for another day. And if you plan to get take-out an evening, include that on the plan too!

Not sure how to get started meal planning? This $5 Meal Plan is a gamechanger! It will simplify your meal planning, help you stay on track with your food budget, and can help you save hundreds of dollars every month. Each meal costs about $2 per person (or less!). Try it here (with no strings attached) for FREE (for two weeks).

• Make a Grocery List Budget & Stick to it

Once you’re done planning your budget-friendly, 30 minute meals for the week, the next step is to make a grocery list based on your meals and your budget. Be sure to browse your pantry for items and ingredients that you already have to prevent wasting and overspending.

Now the trick to saving money on food is sticking to your grocery list and your grocery budget.

I know, I know. You take one step through those Walmart doors and the whiff of freshly baked goodies slap your nostrils (and your wallet!). Then, you decide to peruse the dollar bin… but take TEN (totally unnecessary) items from it. Sigh.

Saving money on groceries will require some (*ahem* A LOT of) self control. One of the things I always suggest is ordering your groceries online for delivery or pick-up. It (somewhat) takes the temptation out of the equation.

If an in-store grocery run is a must, have one designated shopping day to reduce your chances of overspending.

Once you start your shopping, simple habits such as buying generic or store brands and buying in-season items can reduce your grocery bill in a big way!

• Use Cashback Apps

If you’re doing your grocery shopping online and you’re not using cashback apps, dare I say you’re downright robbing yourself! Seriously, you’re leaving money on the table – money that can be used for paying off debt or saving for vacations.

Using a Cashback App such as Tada can earn you hundreds of dollars over time. This is money earned for buying things you were planning to buy anyway. In fact, why not take advantage of the $15 Welcome Bonus from Tada when you first get started?

• Meal Prep to Simplify Cooking

Once you have your groceries in hand, it’s time to simplify your weeknight cooking by meal prepping in advance. Meal prepping on a weekend helps you follow-through with your meal plan during the week so that you do not ruin your money-saving efforts.

Meal prep veggies by cutting up and refrigerating in zip lock bags or air tight containers and prep and marinate meats to make for easy cooking during the week.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to ditch my cooking plans after a long and tiring day at work. But, when I know it’s just a matter of tossing my prepped veggies and meat in a pan, I’m more likely to stick to my plan!

• Increase your Income

I always preach that saving money can only do so much and get you so far. The real gamechanger is when you learn how to make money and increase your income!

Imagine a life where you don’t NEED to stretch every dollar. Sounds pretty damn good to me! With the internet at your fingertips, making money is now easier than ever. Why don’t you start a side hustle and watch the extra cash start rolling in?

Trust me, it wasn’t until I started this blog and started making 6-figures, did I realize that side hustling (with frugal living) is when magic happens!
